NINE cages of food and clothing — the equivalent of 18 palettes worth of freight — has been collected by Fastway Couriers in Albury for Queensland flood victims.
The depot in Fallon Street has finished taking donations and is preparing to send the remaining items to its franchise in Bundaberg.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generous support from residents,” depot manager Wendi Smith said.
“A very special thank you must go to Molly Chambeyron for her donation and idea to place a cage in Beechworth.
“We must also thank Janelle and Mike Molyneux, owners of Nelly’s Niche and Mike’s Bizzare in Beechworth, who allowed us to place a cage in their shop.”
Over the past three weeks Fastway collected canned food, water, blankets and clothing.
“The workers in Bundaberg organised a fire relief effort for the Tasmanian communities affected by the recent spate of bushfires just a week before the floods,” Ms Smith said.
“Thanks to the overwhelming community support we were able to fill nine cages, which Bundaberg were then able to pass onto outlying areas as they received so many donations.”
