WELL-known cattle classer Peter Chilcott will hold a workshop on breeding a superior dairy cattle herd at Yackandandah on Friday.
Known for his unconventional methods, the proprietor of Supergene Livestock Evaluation Systems believes understanding an animal’s skeletal structure helps identify desirable breeding characteristics.
He is also a firm believer that farmers should aim to produce a superior product, one that retailers will want sole rights to and be prepared to pay a premium price.
Friday’s workshop will teach dairy farmers how to select their best cattle for butter fat and protein and keep them as part of an improved herd.
The event will take place at the property of Sam McIntosh, Back Creek Dairy, 325 Kirby Flat Road, Yackandandah.
Starting time is 10.30am and the cost per family group is $230.
For more information and to book a place, phone Mr McIntosh on 0435 471 014.
