The influential breeder and chairman of Racing NSW will be the guest speaker at the club’s Business and Barrels luncheon at the Commercial Club for which 250 tickets have already been sold.
Comedian Paul Martell will entertain guests.
The club will hold its final meeting on Sunday before the Albury Gold Cup Carnival on March 21 and 22.
The $15,000 Commercial Club Sprint (1175m) is the feature race with the winner exempt from the ballot for the $50,000 City Handicap (1400m) over the first day of the carnival.
Twelve runners have nominated for Sunday’s sprint including handy performers Regular Aussie, Hillbilly Dancer, Tarrabandra, Aflashycat and Lateandknewit.
Club chief executive John Miller said the track and surrounds were in terrific order despite the recent lack of rain.
“The track staff have simply done an amazing job considering the lack of rain and the hot weather we have had,” Miller said.
“It looks fantastic for this time of year.
“The marquees for the carnival start being built on Monday so it’s all happening with only three weeks to go.”
- BALLARAT Cup winner Domesky heads weights for Sunday’s Wangaratta Cup after the release of handicaps yesterday.
The Mick Kent-trained stayer has been allotted 60 kilograms in the $80,000 feature to be run over 2010 metres.
Domesky has been weighted two kilograms in front of Chasm, who finished fifth at Flemington at his most recent start on February 16.
Down Under Boy, trained by Melbourne Cup winning trainer Sheila Laxon, has 57.5 kilograms while the Peter Moody-trained Elusive King has 57 kilograms.
Leading Albury trainer Brett Cavanough has also nominated his progressive galloper Price Of Glory after running unplaced in last Sunday’s Kilmore Cup.
Price Of Glory is on the limit weight of 54 kilograms.
The final field will be released today.
