Garden party a charitable affair

NSW Governor Marie Bashir will open Albury Lions Club’s garden party at the Botanic Gardens tomorrow.

More than 500 people from 103 Border charities will attend the party, which aims to promote all local charities.

Club chairwoman of events Ruth Ellis said she had been very pleased to get Professor Bashir to attend.

“I contacted her office last year and explained what I was trying to do and I got a favourable answer late last year,” Mrs Ellis said.

“It’s really exciting, I’m thrilled to have her here.”

After the garden party the club will host a cocktail party at the Albury Club to thank Professor Bashir.

It will be attended by local politicians and communnity leaders.

Mrs Ellis said her club did a great job raising money but was struggling for members.

“We were quite strong but we probably only have about 25 members now because of ill health and people going away,” she said.

Tickets to the party are $60 and can be booked by calling Mrs Ellis on 0448 881 801.
