SANDRA Ball sat weeping in the dock of Wagga Local Court yesterday facing a charge of causing wounding with intent to murder.
Police allege Ball, 58, of Yerong Creek was in a dispute with her 54-year-old partner at their Cole Street home when she left and attempted to obtain a gun.
When her search failed, they said she returned home and sharpened some knives before using them to attack her partner.
Emergency services were called to the scene just before midnight and she was arrested.
She was also charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The man was found with a large cut to his forearm and a stab wound to his chest.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics then taken to Wagga Base Hospital, where he underwent surgery and remains in a stable condition.
Magistrate Michael Antrum ordered Ball to be assessed under a section of the Mental Health Act.
“You are to be detained by police for that time until Gissing House staff form a view on your mental status,” he said.
“If they consider there is no mental health issues you will be brought back before the court.”
