Bourbon is costly for thief

A FORMER Albury man on parole in Victoria has been convicted and fined $800 over the theft of alcohol.

Daniel Morton, 25, of Corio, failed to appear in Albury Local Court on a shoplifting charge with an $80 compensation order made against him.

Morton was involved in the theft of two bottles of bourbon from Dan Murphy’s in Albury on November 6 — a manager saw him, accompanied by three other men, put a bottle down his pants.

The manager noted the Victorian registration number of the car they left in.

Security footage revealed Morton’s identity.

Morton admitted the theft when police confronted him.

Morton was later held in Victoria for unrelated matters and the NSW case was deferred until his release.

Morton was one of two men who went berserk in their cells at Wodonga police station in December after being arrested for the theft of televisions from Aldi, Wodonga.

Morton and Albury man, Dylan Crichton, 21, kicked and punched cell doors and spat at police.
