ALBURY star Lonnie Hampton turned in a dazzling display as the Border-based Millewah Suns took out the annual Jack Atkinson Memorial Carnival at Wagga on Saturday.
Hampton, who was voted the team’s best player, was outstanding as the line-up won its three pool matches and followed up with a comfortable win against the Northern Allies in the final.
Brothers Dean and Hayden Heta, Ash Murray and Jarrah Maksymow were also named in the team of the carnival.
Curtis Reid and Martin Paton also performed well.
Coach Robbie Murray, who was playing in his first match since he led Jindera into the 2009 grand final against Osborne, said he was thrilled with the performance.
“We took a fairly handy side and it was good to win it,” Murray said.
“We only won two of our pool games by less than a goal so we were lucky to get through.
“John Murray did a great job organising everything.”
Eight teams participated in the event with the 15-a-side competition attracting players from throughout NSW and Victoria.
