What do you call a new ferry?

WYMAH or why not?

The race is on to name the new Wymah Ferry and you could be the winner.

The new 30-tonne, 10.5-metre, three-car ferry is expected to go into service next month, replacing the vessel that crossed the Murray River for more than 65 years.

Now the member for Albury, Greg Aplin, has launched a competition to name the ferry.

“The Roads and Maritime Services is keen to reinforce the community’s connection to the service by giving people the opportunity to name the new vessel,” he said.

“All suggestions should include the proposed name, the nominee’s name and contact details, and a 50-word explanation for the name.

“Only one entry a person will be accepted.

“It should also be reasonably easy to read, spell and pronounce.

“Preferred sources for the name include Aboriginal names, history, early explorers, pioneers, settlers other eminent persons, war or casualty lists and thematic names such as flora and fauna.”

Entries close on March 29.
