Speed limiter tampered with on B-double

THE speed limiter in a truck pulled over at Tarcutta on Thursday had been tampered with, police say.

Albury police highway patrol officers detected the B-double travelling at 129km/h in a 100km/h zone at 10.55pm on Thursday.

Police said the speed limiter had been tampered with to allow the truck to travel faster.

The driver, 49, was issued with a traffic infringement notice for speeding and a defective notice for his vehicle.

The traffic and highway patrol operations commander, Superintendent Stuart Smith, said this should be a warning to other drivers.

“This is a prime example of the work traffic and highway patrol officers are now doing,” Supt Smith said.

“This behaviour within the industry continues to occur despite the Joint Heavy Vehicle Taskforce targeting over 4000 trucks believed to be involved in speeding.”
