Driver 'switch' after Lavington cop chase

A MAN who led police on a short car chase in Lavington switched places with his passenger to make it look like he wasn’t driving, police will claim.

Albury Sgt Angus Longley said police had tried to pull over a car on Griffith Road about 6.40pm on Friday when they noticed it was being driven by a man known to them for not having a licence.

He said the car accelerated off when police made a move to follow it, speeding through the Coles car park before stopping.

Sgt Longley said when police reached the car, a female passenger who was sitting in the driver’s seat tried to flee, throwing a bag in which there allegedly was three grams of the drug ice.

The driver, a Thurgoona man, 29, was bailed after being charged with offences including engaging in a police pursuit and driving while disqualified and in a dangerous manner.

The woman, 20, was charged with resisting police and two counts of possessing the drug.
