Lavington man killed in Lockhart smash

A 43-YEAR-OLD man has died after his car rolled and slammed into a tree near Lockhart on Saturday.

Police say the silver Ford XR6 was travelling along Lockhart-Albury Road at Urangeline when it failed to navigate a bend and flipped before slamming into a tree.

This caused the roof to flatten to the same level as the top of the door frame.

Police have confirmed the man, who was from Lavington, was the only person inside the car.

Paramedics, the Volunteer Rescue Association and Wagga police attended the scene but nothing could be done for the man.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police established a crime scene and continued their investigations past midnight.

They say the family of the man attended Wagga police station yesterday.

Tow-truck driver Peter Higgins described the state of the car as a complete mess.

“It’s a mess, it’s been rolled over a number of times and all the roof is the same level as the top edge of the door,” he said.

A report is being prepared for the coroner and police say their investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Wagga police on 6922 2599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
