Beechworth buzzing for giant festival

WORKING bees are hard it, preparing for a bumper three days at Beechworth over the Easter long weekend.

Staff from the Indigo Council, the Beechworth Bakery and Beechworth Honey had the town looking its best yesterday for the launch the town’s Golden Horseshoes Festival.

The three-day festival, from March 29-31, attracts up to 20,000 people.

Beechworth Honey’s marketing manager Kate Ormond said the weekend was one of the busiest on the calendar for the town’s businesses.

“This year there has been an even bigger effort to work out where the money is going and how the town benefits,” she said.

A highlight of the Easter Saturday parade will be a re-enactment of the legend of aspiring politician Daniel Cameron, who led a Beechworth parade in 1855 on a horse shod with shoes of gold.

The parade will feature the floats of schools, community groups and businesses.

Children will be entertained by Beechworth Honey’s mascot, Blossom Bee, at kids corner on Easter Saturday.

Other activities include a food court, craft and produce markets, an Easter egg hunt, a Chinese performing art group and a fun run.
