BORDER chef Chris O’Connor is in a Wagga hospital in a serious condition following a car crash in the city on Monday.
Mr O’Connor was driving a black Nissan X-Trail east on Hammond Avenue in Wagga when his car and a semi-trailer travelling in the opposite direction collided.
Mr O’Connor was taken to Wagga Base Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said yesterday.
The Border chef was running the Adamshurst Restaurant and Function Centre in David Street, Albury, with business partner Tim Howe until December, when it was closed.
Mr O’Connor has been a chef for more than 30 years.
He and Mr Howe had been running the catering at the Wagga RSL Club, on top of commitments at North Albury Sports Club and Howlong Country Golf Club.
Police said investigations were continuing into the cause of the crash.
Hammond Avenue was closed in both directions, with diesel spilling onto the road from a ruptured fuel tank.
Wagga Council had road diversions in place for several hours, while police examined the scene.
