Big names and local stars in Gold Cup mix

SEVERAL of Australia's top trainers and a strong contingent of locals have nominted for next week's Albury Gold Cup.

As expected, David Hayes has a strong hand, including imports Auld Burns and Why Not.

Hayes has won the Gold Cup twice, including last year when Extra Zero scored an all-the-way victory with champion jockey Nash Rawiller aboard.

The Mick Price-trained Callanish was the biggest surprise nomination.

Callanish was a brave fourth in group 2 Blamey Stakes at Flemington last week

Mick Price talks to us about Callanish in Saturday's Border Mail. PLUS: Catch all the weights latest news and fields from every Gold Cup day race.
