FIRE crews feared for the Warby Ovens National Park and farming properties when an angle grinder started a grass fire at Glenrowan near the old Hume Highway last night.
It took 10 tanks and about 50 firefighters to put out the blaze, which started about 6pm and burnt 15 hectares, damaging fences on the property.
Senior station officer at Wangaratta Greg Mitchell said there were worries it could threaten nearby farm assets and the national park.
It took about half an hour to contain.
Mr Mitchell said people shouldn’t be complacent when using machinery.
