KIEWA-Sandy Creek defeated Wodonga Saints by eight points in their Wodonga district leagues pre-season competition match at John Flower Oval last night.
The Hawks overcame a 10-point half-time deficit with a five-goal third quarter and hung on in the final period to claim a 10.8 (68) to 9.6 (60) victory.
Former Wodonga big man Guy Telford, Tim Hallanen and Zac Simmonds each kicked two goals for Kiewa-Sandy Creek, with Jay Shields, Leigh Cameron, Jason Bartel and Jamie Wolf all adding singles.
In the other match, Murray Magpies overcame Federal with a 13-point victory.
Livewire recruit Jarrah Maksymow showed his class with four goals as the Magpies narrowly edged the Swans in the final quarter.
Maksymow and Zac Doyle shared best afield honours for the Mag- pies.
