Town hit by another theft

ABOUT $4000 worth of jewellery was stolen from a home in the second such theft in a fortnight at Wahgunyah.

It was the fourth such theft in the Rutherglen district within six months.

Police said a necklace, rings and earrings were taken from the bedroom of a home in Dennison Street, Wahgunyah, between 8.30am and 4.30pm on Monday while its occupants were away.

Officers said burglars got in through a window.

A laptop and a small amount of cash were taken.

In an incident on March 8, a home in Barkly Street, Wahgunyah, was broken into and thieves made off with jewellery also valued at $4000.

In October, two homes in Rutherglen had jewellery valued at $80,000 stolen between them.

Wodonga detectives are investigating all four matters.

They urge anyone with information to contact them on (02) 6049 2600 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
