Now he has had his best result, at the Willowbank drag strip in Queensland, in the first of five rounds for the Australian Pro Street Association title.
Bullivant blitzed the Outlaw radial class with three qualifying wins, three elimination runs and the final. He managed a personal best over the eighth of a mile of 7.82 seconds at 294.5 km/h.
A multi-winner at Corowa and at car mania events at Winton, the 40-year-old Albury businessman, who operates Bullivants Automotive in Lavington, is looking forward to the next round at Portland in Victoria.
“It was a buzz to win at Willowbank and hopefully we can repeat the dose,” he said.
“After Portland, we travel to Sydney, Mackay and then back to Sydney.
“Wins like Willowbank last month makes the travelling worthwhile.”
Bullivant’s Torana is powered by a twin turbo, 406 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 which develops “somewhere around 1500 horsepower”.
It drives the rear wheels via a two-speed Powerglide gearbox.
Bullivant is quick to point out that without the help of his dad, Tony, a former speedway driver, Jamie Flegg and the rest of the team at Bullivant Automotive, or the help given by Dandy Engines, ProLine Racing and Rapid Wodonga, competing in the series would have been extremely difficult.
“This is a real team effort,” Bullivant said.
