Nearby an Esky full of cold beers and a fishing line still in the water painted the picture of a peaceful camping trip.
The man’s little dog was still on the shore waiting for his owner to return.
The identity of the man was yet to be confirmed yesterday but police believed it was a 62-year-old man from Hidden Valley, just out of Melbourne.
Relatives had contacted Yarrawonga police concerned about the welfare of the married father-of-four, after calling his mobile seven times with no answer.
They hadn’t heard from him since Saturday when he set out alone on a camping trip.
Shortly after noon yesterday police discovered a man’s body floating face down off Goat Island, about a kilometre from the Bundalong boat ramp.
Sgt Grant Churchin, from Mulwala Police, said at this stage they did not believe the death was suspicious, as the Hidden Valley man had a pre-existing medical condition.
The family were notified and travelled to Bundalong.
