Wodonga resident Dianne Cooper found the ring outside the Rivers Clearance Store on Wagga Road in Lavington.
But it wasn’t until she heard about Mr Dawson’s plight in the media that she made the connection to 79-year-old Mr Dawson.
The Howlong resident says he will now keep the ring in a far safer place.
He had worn the ring on his finger since his beloved wife, Joy, died six years ago, but it slipped off because of weight loss as a result of prostate cancer.
