His 200m stretch yesterday down the main drag of Tawonga was just reward for a life spent serving the community wherever he went.
“I’d spent 73 years living in the same house in Northmead, just near Parramatta in Sydney and I never had the urge to move,” Mr Miller said.
“One day me and my wife Joan were driving through Holbrook on our way to Melbourne and we picked up The Border Mail and in there was the house of my dreams in Yackandandah.
“We rang up the agent and then met the owners and pretty much bought the house on the spot — it never went to auction and we relocated not long after.
“I subscribe to The Border Mail now because, I reckon I owe them something for finding a new life in the property section — it was simply meant to be.”
Mr Miller, 78, served as a volunteer with the NSW Fire Brigades for 53 years before moving.
