But his quest is more honourable than a bit of R&R.
Mr Frauenfelder, four of his fellow Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Albury, two builders (fully sponsored for the trip by the same club) and three women, including his step-daughter Maddie, are off to Fiji as part of the Rotahomes Fiji Project.
“It involves spending two weeks at a model suburb, Koroipita Village, near Lautoka, helping to build dwellings for the people who were left homeless after cyclones struck the two islands of Fiji in 1985,” Mr Frauenfelder said.
“It is under the auspices of Rotary Australia World Community Service and run through the Rotary Club of Lautoka.
“This is my second year as team leader for Albury but for my first two years I was over there with the Albury North club.”
Peter Drysdale, from Rotary Lautoka, started the concept.
“He started repairing houses and then building them randomly around the two islands.
“And then eight to 10 years ago he decided to set up a whole suburb,” Mr Frauenfelder said.
“Koroipita means the town of Peter.”
Mr Frauenfelder said New Zealand Aid supplies the finances and Australian clubs provide the labour.
“So this year and last year I’ve organised my own crew to go over,” he said.
“Rotary Clubs from NSW, Victoria and Tasmania go over there fairly regularly.
“The builders supervise and the rest of us help them where we can.
“Stage 1 was about 80 houses and stage 2, which we will be working on, is about 280.
“The people who move into the houses have been living pretty rough, in parks and in the bush.”
Albury Rotarians have two other missions before going back to Fiji.
“We have been asked if we can bring some second-hand rugby and soccer balls and boots,” he said.
“And we are having a trivia fund-raising night at the Commercial Club on Saturday.
“It would be great if people could join in or if any local businesses could donate goods or services for our silent auction.”
