Children at Albury’s Goodstart Early Learning Centre took part in a lap-a-thon at Haydon Park yesterday as part of Chicks Walk for a Cause, a fund-raiser for stage 2 of the Albury-Wodonga cancer accommodation centre.
Goodstart Early Learning acting director Shannon Ritchie said it was important to give young children the opportunity to make a difference in their community.
“One girl, Chelsea Baker, raised more than $300 and she is aware the laps are for this cause,” Ms Ritchie said.
“We don’t have an exact figure but the kids raised well over $500.”
The idea for the children to participate was initiated by personal trainer Jade Krautz, who had undertaken a fitness program with the group for the past 10 weeks.
“Ally Bradley is doing the Chicks Walk for a Cause and her son, Maverick, attends the learning centre,” Ms Krautz said.
“He talked about his mum doing the walk and was so excited and proud so I thought we could incorporate our own fund-raiser into the fitness program.”
The Fit Kids program takes place every Friday and Ms Krautz said it boosted their self-esteem and confidence.
