Maternity wards across Australia welcomed hundreds of other bundles of joy. The newborns might not be third in line to the throne or have the Queen of England as their great-granny, but in the eyes of their proud parents, the tiny tots couldn’t be more perfect.
Statistically speaking, there was one birth every one minute and 43 seconds across Australia yesterday. Fairfax Regional Media has today captured images of just some of the beaming families.
Keen to ensure the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new son doesn’t steal all the limelight, Clarence House has asked its Twitter followers to share pictures of other new arrivals using the #welcometotheworld hashtag (see below).
Britain’s Royal Mint is giving UK babies born on the same day as the future monarch a suitably royal welcome by presenting them with a silver penny struck with the year of their birth.
Royal Mint commemorative coin director Shane Bissett said the birth of the royal baby was a “”joyous occasion” for the nation.
“However, it will also be a special day for many mothers and fathers across the country as they too welcome the arrival of their new baby, hence why we wanted to extend this historical moment to them with a lucky silver penny.”
They royal baby was one of about 2000 children born every day in the UK.
UK parents have 60 days to obtain one of the 2031 available coins.
Australian babies will miss out on the coin but their parents have qualified for the the $5000 baby bonus just in time before it is slashed to just $2000 early next year.
