KATTER’S Australian Party has endorsed shearer Phil Rourke as its new candidate for the seat of Indi.
The fledgling party led by Bob Katter was left without a representative earlier this week after its first choice, Lee Luvara, stood down.
Senate candidate Robert Danieli yesterday announced Mr Rourke, of Beechworth, had been endorsed.
“He’s very passionate, he’s got a real idea of what’s going on in the local community, and he’s on the side of agriculture, manufacturing and jobs,” Mr Danieli said.
So far there are nine likely candidates in Sophie Mirabella’s seat, though it is unclear if James Houston, of the 21st Century Australia Party, would go ahead.
Mr Houston was debating his options after his party was told this week it had not been officially registered with the Australian Electoral Commission in time.
He could not be reached last night.
