HOWLONG athlete Jackson Whiley is a state champion.
He took out the under-13 Victorian State Cross Country championships last weekend.
Whiley, 13, who is a member of Albury Little Athletics, just outlasted Andrew Amor, of Bacchus Marsh, over the three-kilometre event contested at Warragul’s Lardner Park.
Whiley ran the course in 10 minutes and 57 seconds.
Barooga athlete Marcus Evans finished fourth.
Whiley’s Albury clubmate, Mikaela Shepherd, also did well.
She recorded a top-20 finish in the 2000-metre under-11 girls race.
She ran 19th.
