Chris Scott has criticised Geelong supporters for jeering embattled forward Tom Hawkins.
Hawkins' form has been down this year as he has struggled with a back injury and his figures on Saturday against Port Adelaide were not any better, finishing with five kicks, one handball and a goal.
Talking on Fox Footy after the game, Scott launched a strong defence of Hawkins, taking aim at those who had vented their opinions.
''I heard some of our supporters almost come out with the Bronx cheers. It's embarrassing. It's embarrassing for all of Geelong,'' Scott said.
''We've got some pretty ugly supporters, if that's the case.
''They've been well looked after for a long period of time, and we expect better.''
Scott also told the post-game press conference that Hawkins was doing his part for the team.
''Tom is a handful [up] forward. He's a handful for even the best opposition,'' Scott said.
''We're comfortable with what Tom's giving us but no one in our team's got a gold ticket.
''Tom would like to be playing better but I didn't think he was disgraceful by any stretch.''
