MORE than 250 riders will be part of the state of origin BMX series in Wodonga on Sunday week.
The Silva Drive circuit is the North East’s only registered BMX track and attracts riders from as far away as Griffith and Wagga for training and racing.
Club president Stephen Sullivan says numbers will swell when it hosts its third annual cross-Border challenge, rivalry among NSW, Victoria and the ACT a major drawcard.
“This event brings not only the riders, but also the parents and other support people, to the Albury-Wodonga area each year and it continues to grow,” he said.
“Entries have already exceeded 100 and the general rule of thumb is that 70 per cent of riders enter in the last two days, when they know what the weather is doing.
“Since the Olympics there has been growing interest in the sport — we have doubled our members this year and have interest from people through the winter which is quite unusual.”
Racing starts at 10am with free admission and a free “breakfast for early risers”.
