ASPIRING snow skiers have been learning cross-country skiing on a perfect alternative to snow — an asphalt car park in West Wodonga.
Victory Lutheran College has hosted the practice area for eight to 10 boys and girls ahead of the Kangaroo Hoppet at Falls Creek later this month.
Cross-country skiing stalwart Bob Cranage has been guiding the youngsters from various Border schools using roller skates.
“We can teach all the skills they need for the snow on the asphalt car park,” Mr Cranage said.
The youngsters will compete in the junior version of the Kangaroo Hoppet, the Joey Hoppet, on Sunday.
Some $18,000 worth of roller skates is on permanent loan to Victory.
