THE representative season for districts in Zone 8 (Riverina) starts early next month.
This year’s President’s Cup for players in grades 5, 6 and 7 will be hosted by the Southern Slopes District at West Wyalong on September 7 and 8.
The Albury District selectors, Lloyd Ronan and Eric Cossor, have picked players to trial at Walla on Sunday.
Those picked to take part are Des Keenan, Russell Post, David Brown and Max Duncan skip; Graham Butterworth, Bill Prideaux, Noel Wilksch and Max Findley s; Kevin Meyer, Brett Brownfield, John Edwards and Martin Jenkins s; Peter Gale, Matthew Richens, Brian Walter and Les Murphy s; Ian Conran, Arthur Jenner, Feargal O’Hearcain and Gordon McKissack s; Lloyd Bellchambers, Allan Ward, Mick Dunnet and Mike Hodges s; Adrian Aitken, Lachlan Hair, Des Klinberg and David Limbrick s.
The players taking part have to be at Walla by 12.30pm for a 1pm start.
Ronan yesterday said all players were expected to wear their club pennant uniforms.
- Temora and Tumbarumba were the only Zone 8 teams to reach semi-finals in the state pennant play-offs for the various grades last weekend.
It was a photo finish for Temora to qualify for the semi-finals after it won well against Warilla and Forbes on Saturday.
But on the Sunday morning, Temora suffered a 37-shot belting from Inverell.
That left Inverell and Temora level on points and shots and, despite that morning’s hiding, Temora qualified for the semi-finals by having less shots scored against.
It was then beaten 65-60 Taren Point in a semi-final.
Tumbarumba won its section in grade five before losing a semi-final to Soldiers Point 58-55.
