STRONG performances from Xavier Albury’s Fletcher Carroll and The Scots School Albury’s Charlie Spargo weren’t enough to lift NSW to victory in their Australian Under-15 Schoolboys Championships semi-final against South Australia yesterday.
Playing in 30-degree temperatures in Darwin, NSW went down by 16 points to go into a play-off match against Western Australia for third and fourth positions.
Carroll and Spargo won plenty of touches around the ground with coach Tim Sanson forced to rotate his players continually in the trying conditions.
“The boys have played four games in the past five days, so it’s been fairly tough going,” Sanson said last night.
“They have all got a kick at different stages.
“South Australia were a bit too good today, but it’s still been a good effort finishing in the top three or four sides in the championships.”
NSW has defeated Queensland and Northern Territory and lost to Victoria Country and South Australia.
It will play Western Australia tomorrow.
