THE nation’s finger-pickin’ devotees are in Beechworth for its annual Kelly Country Pick bluegrass festival.
Organisers have added an extra day to the 15-year-old festival. An open mic night was held last night before the festival rolls into concerts tonight and over the weekend. There will also be music workshops.
Festival director Wendy Jackson said the extra night was all about relaxing before a hectic long weekend. About 400 people are expected to attend.
“Everybody loves to jam and it gets pretty frantic,” she said.
“The open mic is about everyone being here earlier and having a relaxed start to the event.”
Stars from last year, Brisbane duo Breaking Hart Benton, are back along with newcomers Bluegrass Parkway and Coolgrass.
“Those who play at high levels are incredible musicians,” Ms Jackson said.
