In a fairytale end to Roos coach Liam Clayton’s tenure, the home team set the tone early with Trent Castles at his devastating best with eight goals.

Castles, who edged out Lachlan Maslen in the club’s best and fairest, was unstoppable with support coming from ruckman Justin Maybury in his return from injury.

Clayton described his team’s six goals to one first quarter as its season’s best with the Bulldogs struggling to get their hands on the ball.

“It was brilliant,” he said.

“The boys wanted to go out in a big way and they just went from there.

“Justin Maybury was back and he made a huge difference in the ruck.

“It was a great way for the club to finish the season and hopefully it helps in regards to next year.”

Thurgoona was without some key players including Mark Bush and will need to lift its game for Saturday’s qualifying final against Mitta United at Sandy Creek.

Jake Way was strong for the Bulldogs, while Todd Miller presented himself well with five goals.

Mitta United finished in second spot on the back of its 60-point thumping of Wahgunyah.

With Luke Vandersluys, Alex Beggs and Jade Culph providing a three-pronged attack, the Blues proved a class above and will hope tomorrow’s tribunal doesn’t deplete their stocks with five players on charges.

Aaron and Brydon Robins and Terrence Jones rallied hard for the Lions.

Wodonga Saints finished the season with a 25-point win against Beechworth.
