Kristy King had the accident about 6.15am on June 28 in Carcoola Street and police were unable to ascertain exactly of how it happened.
At the time, she was driving her young son to the Albury railway station to catch a train.
When police arrived, her son was complaining about chest pains and King’s eyes were bloodshot, she was unsteady on her feet and smelt of alcohol.
King was arrested after a positive preliminary breath test and taken to the police station for a breath analysis.
Her son accompanied police so ambulance staff could check him for injury.
A breath analysis at 7.13am gave a middle-range reading of 0.125.
It was after King removed her jacket for a further search while in custody that officers noticed she was expecting.
It took much persuasion from police before King said she was 30 weeks’ pregnant.
Ambulance officers assessed her and police decided to release her from custody so she could attend the Albury hospital for further assessment and treatment.
There were significant concerns by police about King’s unborn child.
King, 33, of Parkland Crescent, Lavington, appeared in Albury Local Court yesterday.
She pleaded guilty to charges of drink-driving, stating a false name, negligent driving and being a NSW resident for three months without obtaining a licence.
Police had issued her with a licence suspension notice when they questioned her at 1pm about what happened with the accident.
She said she had drunk five stubbies of beer and five pre-mix spirit drinks between 8pm and 6am, the last drink being taken not long before the accident.
King moved from Victoria to Albury about six months prior and didn’t try to get a NSW driver’s licence.
She is expecting her fourth child early next month, magistrate Tony Murray was told.
He fined her a total of $1350 and banned her from driving for eight months.
