A SMALL town post office has beaten more than 100 Australia Post offices across North East Victoria to win an award.
The Barnawartha office has been named Network Champions 2012-13 for overall excellence.
Licensee manager Katrina Smith said yesterday she cried when she and husband Glenn received the award because it recognised how far they had come since a burglary at the post office that came only six weeks after they opened two years ago.
Mrs Smith and her husband were unaware of the competition and she said they had just been doing what they had always done.
“We just tick all the boxes, have consistency and just love what we do,” she said.
“It is a sleepy town and there’s not much to sustain people as far as work and tourism go, so this is a great win.”
The reward program has been running for the past 12 months and does not include any corporate stores.
Mrs Smith said it was a great incentive, although one they didn’t need.
“We have always delivered great service so that’s why our customers choose to support us,” she said.
“They are under the mentality if they don’t use it they lose it.”
