MATT Shir is confident he will play a part in September after suffering another injury setback in Saturday’s blockbuster against Yarrawonga.
Shir, who has played just five senior games this year thanks to nagging Achilles problems, strained his right quad in the second quarter and took no further part in the match.
But the former Adelaide midfielder, who was among the best on the ground before getting injured, said he hoped to return for Albury’s second semi-final clash with Lavington or the Pigeons.
He will travel to Melbourne this week to have the injury assessed.
“I just gave my quad a little bit of nick in that second quarter but hopefully all goes well, I pull up well, and I’m right to go in two weeks,” Shir said.
“It was just precautionary but I did feel it go a little bit.”
The 2004 Did Simpson medallist and three-time best and fairest winner at Wodonga, conceded he was more likely to return for the preliminary final at the earliest.
