THE man charged with Tuesday’s stabbing in Whitfield that left a man on life support made his first appearance in court yesterday.
John Francis Kemp, 47, of Whitfield, was charged with recklessly and intentionally cause serious injury after Trevor Grimshaw was stabbed in his own home on the King Valley Road on Tuesday morning.
Kemp appeared in the Wangaratta Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning where he made no application for bail.
He was remanded in custody to re-appear on September 4.
Detective Sgt Kevin Coughlan said Mr Grimshaw had improved slightly yesterday but he was still in a serious condition in the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The Border Mail was told Mr Grimshaw had been drinking with friends at the Whitfield pub on Monday night.
This statement, which was published in yesterday’s paper, is incorrect with the Whitfield pub not open on Mondays and the owners said Mr Grimshaw’s friends are barred from the establishment.
