I ATTENDED the launch of Sophie Mirabella’s campaign on August 23 and I was delighted to meet Joe Hockey and hear him speak.
He spoke of his own seat in North Sydney and how he took over from an independent.
Mr Hockey recounted taking the seat from Ted Mack, who said to him that being an independent was like being in the wilderness.
This worries me for the future of Indi.
I get a sense in reading and watching about the Indi campaign, that it echoes the past three years of government.
There is a real collaboration between Labor, Greens and Independents, who seem very “chummy” and wanting to hand this seat to an independent.
We know that last time the independents sided with Labor.
So from my point of view, a vote for an independent is like a vote for Labor or the Greens.
Be careful who you vote for.
The Coalition looks to be heading towards taking government in its own right.
Both major parties have said they will not negotiate with independents.
Indi doesn’t want to miss the chance to have a member in cabinet and a member that’s with the government in power.
