CHAMPION hoop Michael Rodd is set to make what is believed to be his first appearance at Wodonga racecourse today.
Only two days after guiding Atlantic Jewel to a breathtaking first-up win in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield, Rodd will travel to Wodonga to partner several runners for the Mark Kavanagh stable.
Rodd is booked to ride Paradou, Galop Infernale and Bern Bee for Kava-nagh.
He has also picked up mounts on Chosen Son for Luke Oliver and Sportscaster for Jason Warren.
Club chief Tom O’Connor was thrilled to be able to lure one of the nation’s biggest name jockeys to Wodonga for the first time.
“It’s exciting for the club to have not only Michael Rodd ride at the meeting but also to have horses from the Kavanagh stable,” O’Connor said.
“Michael is one of the hottest jockeys at the moment because of his association with Atlantic Jewel who is the boom horse of the spring carnival.”
Atlantic Jewel resumed from an 18-month layoff with an emphatic win at Caulfield on Saturday to stretch her unbeaten run to eight.
Bookmakers slashed Atlantic Jewel’s Cox Plate odds from $6 into $3 after the dominant display.
