EIGHT students from Wewak Street School were dancing on air when they found out they would perform for the first time in Sydney’s Schools Spectacular.
Teacher and dance co-ordinator Emily Powell said the performing arts showcase would build the students’ self confidence.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for the kids to perform in front of a live audience and have a wide range of experiences,” she said.
“It will be the first visit some of them will have to Sydney.”

They will be performing in the Disability Arts Ensemble and Ms Powell said it had been growing in popularity.
“I hope that we will be able to keep entering for years to come,” she said.
The students give up lunchtimes on Tuesdays and Thursdays to practise for the spectacular, which premieres in November.
Year 12 student Tia Kissier said she was nervous and excited about performing in front of the crowd of thousands.
“I am looking forward to meeting other kids and being on TV,” she said.
