THE North East’s parks, streets and sporting grounds are about to get more than 180 recycling bins so visitors can “do the right thing”.
Their installation will cost more than $300,000.
Waste group NevRwaste is doing the work for seven councils and three alpine resorts.
The Australian Food and Grocery Council yesterday added $140,000 to $200,000 already provided for the project.
The bins would be installed in Wodonga, Wang- aratta, Indigo, Towong and Alpine shires and at Mansfield, Falls Creek, Mount Hotham and Mount Buller.
NevRwaste’s Kim Mueller said the bins would give people the opportunity to recycle when out as they would at home.
The bins were part of an industry-funded $100 million national plan to reduce litter.
