YARRAWONGA has ruled Brad Ottens out of Sunday’s Ovens and Murray grand final.
In a blow to the reigning premier’s chance of going back-to-back, co-coach Drew Barnes confirmed yesterday the former Geelong star was unable to play on Sunday.
Ottens is a ruck coach at Geelong and has been told he’s required to attend Sunday’s VFL grand final, which the Cats have made.
“He won’t be available this weekend,” Barnes said.
“He has been told he’s required at the VFL.
“We knew it was a possibility all year.
“I guess it makes our decisions a little bit easier.”
Barnes said the Pigeons were disappointed but were always bracing themselves for the news.
“We always needed a bit of luck to fall our way to get him.”
Yarrawonga’s playing coach said Ottens’ absence wouldn’t hurt the Pigeons’ confidence going into the decider.
“We’ve won plenty of games this year without him, including our last final against Albury,” Barnes said.
