BENALLA coach Luke Morgan had admitted being shocked by his runaway victory in the Goulburn Valley league’s Morrison medal.
Morgan, who joined the club from Wangaratta this season and led the Saints into the finals in his first year at the helm, stormed to the lead early in the count and finished with 35 votes.
He finished 19 votes clear of Kyabram’s Simon Seddon and Shepparton Swans’ Jessie Finnen.
“I don’t normally poll well in these counts,” Morgan said.
“Maybe being a playing coach has helped me,” he said.
Benalla bowed out of the premiership race with a seven-point loss to Shepparton Swans in the semi-finals last weekend.
Shepparton United will play Swans in the preliminary final this weekend, with the winner to play Kyabram in the grand final.
