RESIDENTS are being given the chance to view the latest plans for Indigo Council’s new offices in Beechworth and Yackandandah.
The plans will be available when the council holds information sessions in the towns to update people on the project.
The first sessions will be held at the Yackandandah Sports Park hall on September 30 and October 1, running at 6pm, 6.30pm, 7pm and 7.30pm.
These will be followed by sessions at the Beechworth Memorial Hall supper room on October 7 and 9, from 6pm to 7pm.
Indigo mayor Barb Murdoch said the plans for both sites were almost complete “and it is important the community has an opportunity to see them”.
The council bought The Pines building at Mayday Hills in Beechworth this year for $500,000.
Cr Murdoch said the council had also recommitted to building a new office, combined with a new library, at Yackandandah.
She said the plans would be on display at customer service centres in Rutherglen, Chiltern, Yackandandah and Beechworth and other sites around the shire from September 26.
Cr Murdoch said the Yackandandah office would include an open civic space at the front for community use and a library that would be open on Saturday mornings as well as from Monday to Friday.
Most of the Beechworth work involved refurbishing The Pines and developing a car park.
“The council will also maintain the roads within Mayday Hills so these will remain open to the public,” she said.
“This will ensure access to the historic gardens and grounds for everyone.”
Cr Murdoch said the projects would have sustainable design features such as energy-efficient lights and appliances, rainwater storage and re-use, timber from renewable sources where possible, recycled materials “where appropriate”, water-efficient appliances and solar panels.
“We anticipate all work at The Pines and Yackandandah will be done within the budget of $4.74 million,” she said.
“There is the strong prospect of some savings and a better overall outcome for the shire.
Those wishing to attend the Yackandandah sessions are asked to phone 1300 365 003 to indicate which session they would like to attend.
