BENALLA film-lovers will be able to enjoy more new release movies soon.
The city’s performing arts centre will get a $316,000 upgrade, including a digital projector.
Mayor Barbara Alexander said yesterday more people would visit the centre if such a projector was installed.
The centre is the only place in Benalla where movies can be screened but patrons have to wait 10 weeks after the release of films before they are available to the centre.
“We don’t have the facilities to get all of the new releases and the ones we can get we have to wait 10 weeks for,” Cr Alexander said.
“Now we can get them after only two weeks and there will be a better variety.”
Cr Alexander said the council had been planning an upgrade for the past few years but it was difficult to find the money.
This week the Victorian government announced it would provide $237,000 towards the project from its Putting Locals First Program, topping up funds from the city council, the centre’s Friends group, Mansfield and Benalla Toyota and business and youth groups.
Cr Alexander said the revamp would also give the performing arts centre an opportunity to host more live shows.
