A MAN’S lie to police yesterday was never going to cut it.
Wodonga police had found a Baranduda man, 32, drunk in the passenger seat of his 2004 Honda, which was missing the front right tyre, stopped on the Hume Freeway near Bandiana link road about 12.30am.
He told them his partner had been driving and had left to get a tyre, according to Acting Sgt Ross Draper.
“A lady did arrive but he had contacted her to come and get him,” he said.
“He must have been driving on the rim for some time but we don’t know what happened to the wheel,” Sgt Draper said.
Police changed the spare tyre to move the car, which was also damaged, to a safer area.
“What he said wasn’t true — that’s why he was designated as the driver of the vehicle,” Sgt Draper said.”
The man had a blood alcohol reading of .150 after he was taken to the Wodonga police station. He was released and will receive a summons.
