NOW the result in Indi is clear, the challenge for those in the electorate is to be good sports.
For those on the winning side, accept with grace that we have the result we wished for.
We don’t have to feel sorry for the loser because the result is a clear example of cause and effect, but can we please show some empathy.
Sophie has lost her job, her career, and is probably humiliated by the defeat.
Let’s not act like a bunch of red-necked vigilantes and kick her while she is down.
That’s not the style of the victor, nor, I imagine, would Cathy McGowan wish any of her supporters to act this way.
Our other challenge, as a community, is to work with and support Cathy McGowan so she can deliver as our elected representative.
This is now our responsibility.
If we do this well, other electorates will take Indi’s lead and support candidates who actually stand up for and represent their communities.
Big party politics might have to take notice too.
