A WOMAN was spat on four times and her friend hit in the head with an empty can during a daylight attack at a Rutherglen buck’s party, police said yesterday.
Leading Sen-Constable Darren O’Neill said a man wearing a pink dress had spat on the two women walking near Rutherglen’s Star Hotel at 5pm on Saturday.
The forehead and sunglasses of the woman, 22, were covered in spit.
Her friend, 33, had her T-shirt spat on and a can was thrown at her.
“It’s disgraceful conduct,” Sen-Constable O’Neill said. “Spitting is treated seriously by the courts. The women were traumatised.”
Sen-Constable O’Neill said the women had been minding their own business when approached by up to 15 men who used offensive language to insult them.
“I imagine they had been drinking for the buck’s party and would have all been encouraging each other,” he said.
“It was lucky the young woman had sunglasses on, otherwise she would have copped it in the eye.”
Sen-Constable O’Neill said people needed to think about how much alcohol they were consuming as it became warmer.
He said anyone who had seen the incident or had information about the men who were dressed in costume should contact Rutherglen police on (02) 6032 9612.
