VOTING figures for the federal seat of Indi have been amended again, with Cathy McGowan winning by 418 votes.
It was earlier reported independent Ms McGowan had defeated Liberal incumbent Sophie Mirabella by 431 votes.
But Australian Electoral Commission spokesman Steve Kennedy said a final check of some ballots that had been deemed informal had changed that.
He said the 418-vote margin gave Ms McGowan 44,732 votes to Mrs Mirabella’s 44,314.
Of the enrolled voters, 95.34 per cent turned out with 93,814 of a possible 98,399 votes recorded.
Of those, 4768 votes (5.08 per cent) were ruled informal — higher than in 2010 (3.91 per cent) and 2007 (2.68 per cent).
The number of voters and the turnout were higher this year after changes to the electorate’s boundaries.
There were 92,914 voters in 2010 (94.8 per cent turnout) and 90,841 in 2007 (95.80 per cent).
