With just days to go, the Ute Muster's website declares 93 per cent of tickets have been sold, and festival marketing manager Karla Notley confirmed the sales are on track to surpass the record crowd of more than 22,000 who turned up in 2010.

The drawcard - other than a massive annual festival - seems to be the headline artist, American country music superstar Alan Jackson.

If history is anything to go by, the bigger the act, the bigger the crowd - a lesson learned when both attendance and the ute count peaked for Cold Chisel in 2010.

"Everyone is really excited about Alan Jackson," Ms Notley said.

"We should come close to beating it (the ute count) this year, the way ticket sales are going. It's the old age problem - people that used to come in utes are now bringing their families (in cars or caravans)."

And that they are. Festival director John Harvie said in 2011 that the muster was losing a bit of the B&S feel it began with, and according to the 2012 survey 65 per cent of the crowd was made up of those aged between 18 and 35, followed by the 32 per cent that comprises those aged between 36 and 60.

More than half of last year's attendees had been to the ute muster between one and seven times, and just more than one in 10 had made the road trip to more than eight musters. 

With everything from circlework championships, competitions, tractor pull and bullride to freestyle motocross, whip-cracking, activities for the kids and a ute barrel racing competition - and all this before the massive line-ups the muster has showcased - it's no wonder.

This year, festival-goers will soak in the sounds of the Sunny Cowgirls, Adam Brand, Corb Lund, Grinspoon, Kaylee Bell, Morgan Evans, and Kasey Chambers before Alan Jackson takes the stage on the Saturday night.

In the past, the likes of Australian icons Cold Chisel, The Living End, Powderfinger, Icehouse, John Williamson, Lee Kernaghan, James Reyne, Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey have graced the stage, as has American singing sensation Kelly Clarkson and Joe Nichols.
